Matt Good break in
Once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 random things, facts, goals, or habits about yourself. At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged, listing their names & why you chose them. Don't forget to leave them a comment (you're it!) and to read your blog for instructions. You can't tag a person who has tagged you. Since you can't re-tag me, let me know when you've posted your blog so I can read the answers!

1. I work on the 13th floor of my building. Good thing I'm not triskaidekaphobic. ^-^

2. My childhood/adolescent dream was to be a professional figure skater. I was never very good at it, lol, but I did singles skating from age 10 to the end of high school, and then during my freshman year of college I joined the NYC Intercollegiate Synchronized Skating team for fun. (If you don't know what synchro is, here's a random vid of the Haydenettes who are one of the top US teams.)

The team I was on had nooo funding, and we had to practice at 1am on Thursday nights because that was when ice time was cheapest. The year after I joined, we disbanded because most of us were too busy to skate. Before that, though, we did get to go to the U.S. Synchro Nationals in San Diego (at the time, there weren't that many college synchro teams, so everyone got to attend Nationals regardless of ability). That was awesome, because San Diego is beautiful. :D

3. For several years when I was younger, I used to have episodes of sleep paralysis—sometimes even with the hallucinations—anywhere from once a week to two or three times a night. Now it only happens to me once every few months.

4. This one is probably TMI!!!!!!! ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but I think I must have a mild form of trichotillomania, a disorder characterized by obsessively pulling your hair out, lol. Not that I pull hair out of my scalp, but aside from the usual girly eyebrow tweezing, I get way too into plucking the hairs on the backs of my fingers/hands (usually using my fingernails). When I was younger, my mom didn't allow me to shave my legs, so I plucked them. A couple years ago, I noticed a friend of mine plucking the hair on the backs of her hands with her fingernails (like me! lol); I called her on it and we had a huge bonding moment. LOL.

5. If I have bananas on hand, I'll eat them in combination with almost everything. With scrambled eggs, steak, fish sticks ... everything!! (And when I say in combination, I mean something like a slice of banana and a piece of egg in the same bite). X)

6. I *suck* at debating things. I don't mean school team debate (well, I suck at that, too!) but just everyday debates like, "Is Superman boring or is he not?" LOL. There's a really good Kurt Cobain quote ... that I can't find, lol ... about arguing with a lot of sincerity, but no logic, and that's pretty much me. If I have to defend a point in say, a paper, I'm fine, but I'm not a quick thinker, so if I have to defend a viewpoint in real time to another person, my ability to be coherent oftentimes crumbles. It's really frustrating, lol. :/

7. I haven't bought myself a new article of clothing in something like 5 years. It started out as a way to save money in college, but now that I've gone for so long without buying new clothes, it's gotten really hard to break the "habit." My wardrobe is going to bore me to death. Must ... go ... shopping ...

8. For a few years (probably from when I was 16 to 19) I used to meditate on an almost daily basis. It actually really worked for me in terms of helping me focus and deal with Issues and what not, but maybe it worked a little too well, because when I *wanted* to just daydream and lose myself in thought, I couldn't really snap back into that mindset (daydreaming is very important to me, lol =P). I eventually stopped meditating out of laziness or being too busy or something and am back to being a complete scatter brain. XD I *would* like to take it up again someday, but have yet to find a way to make time for it ...

9. I HATE math with the passion of a thousand burning suns. I literally almost walked out of the GREs during the math section. And the math on the GREs isn't even difficult math, lol.

10. I used to work in my university's Physics Department, and would put away the class demos/lock up the big lecture halls after the last evening classes finished. Once the lecture halls emptied, I'd go into them and sing at the top of my lungs for however long I felt like before locking up. It was like singing in the shower, times 100! =P I always thought I must've scared some of the janitors/security guards/whoever was on the night staff, but no one ever walked in on me, so maybe not. *sheepish grin*

I'm not tagging anyone specific since so many people have already done this meme. If you haven't been tagged for it, though ... YOU'RE IT!

Also, if you've posted something you'd like me to look at (especially if it's something I said I'd get to a frillion years ago and haven't gotten to yet) feel free to take this moment to nudge me about it. I'm trying to do some catch up before falling into oblivion again, but I'm doing a very spotty job of it soo, yes ... nudge meeeeeeeeee. :D

Doh! I had forgotten about the issues with my color scheme. I need to fix that sometime! But I did see the links due to the ... conspicuous absence of text there. *grin*

Yay, thanks for the links! As you might've already seen, I enjoyed your Superman stories immensely. :D

I am a fan of Dick/Babs, too, and although I barely follow the Titans canon wise, I do enjoy seeing the characters in fan works. So I have bookmarked your other two series, and -I'm sure you know how impossibly slow I can be, lol, but- I will try to get to them soon! X)

#2--Synchronized skating sounds awesome! I'd never even thought of it before!

#3--Sleep paralysis sounds terrifying! I couldn't even read the whole description, it made me too nervous.

#4--Ah, another member of the self-mutilator's club! Man, there are a lot of us. Mine's ripping the cuticles, ow.

#6--Oh, I know. I'm okay at putting down an argument on paper, given time to concentrate...and especially if I know no one will be responding. When I know my arguments will be answered, though...I crumble. I mean, it's not even that I can think of things but lack the courage to say them, I literally can come up with nothing at all. My brain becomes this terrifying dead zone, lol...I suspect I come across as amazingly stupid sometimes because of this.

*hugs*

#2--Synchronized skating sounds awesome!

It was a lot of fun! Especially the performing/competing-in-a-large-group aspect; that made it a lot less nervewracking and a lot more enjoyable (I had horrible nerves *shudders*)

#3--Sleep paralysis sounds terrifying! I couldn't even read the whole description, it made me too nervous.

Eep! It honestly was really terrifying the first two or three times it happened, but once I realized each occurrence was only temporary, it became more ... annoying, lol. And occasionally cool in retrospect, but mostly annoying. =P

#4--Ah, another member of the self-mutilator's club! Man, there are a lot of us. Mine's ripping the cuticles, ow.

Ouch, ripping cuticles does sound painful, lol. But I guess that saves you from having to get them trimmed if you get a manicure? =P (although I've never actually gotten a manicure, so I'm not sure that's something they even do ^-^)

My brain becomes this terrifying dead zone, lol...I suspect I come across as amazingly stupid sometimes because of this.

YES! EXACTLY! GAH! It's like all my knowledge of a subject flies out the window once I have to present it to someone who I know disagrees with me. And then I'm just left with the feeling that I look like a complete idiot. :/

*hugs back*

Urhg. Read this half-way earlier, but I think my boss kicked me out of the office... and forgot to comment. x_x

2. Wow. :O That's amazing-awesome. It's too bad other life stuff got in the way.

3. As you know, I totally feel you on that one. I'm jus' glad I never had the hallucinations with it. *hugs*

4&5: lol XD quirks

Aww, thanks for coming back! This is yet another reason why I should be less wordy =P

2. Wow. :O That's amazing-awesome. It's too bad other life stuff got in the way.

Yeah, I've always wanted to get back into skating casually, at least—I need exercise!—but it's been hard to find time again. :/

3. As you know, I totally feel you on that one. I'm jus' glad I never had the hallucinations with it. *hugs*

Eep, I never answered your other comment on this, but I can't believe that happened to you at work! O_o *hugs back*

As for the hallucinations, they were never actually that bad. Usually I just thought that someone I lived with—like my mom or my roommate—had come into the room. Although one time I thought a car was in the room, and another time I thought someone was standing over me and chanting magical spells, LOL. That last one was actually pretty cool, in retrospect. ^-^

And yay quirks! :D

Hee! I'm the same! I don't buy any clothes for myself, but about... once a year or so? My mum sort of forces to me get some new stuff, lol. The only new clothes I've bought for myself are Superman and Batman T-shirts. :P

Woo! *high fives* Yeah, my mom buys new clothes for me sometimes, and my relatives give me clothes as Christmas presents, lol, but those are the only new clothes I've gotten in forever. If I buy nothing else, though, I do really need to get myself Superman and Batman shirts. My lack of comics related clothing is appalling! =P

#2: I remember you had a vast knowledge of figure skating when we were talking with Jen's students! It's too bad your team disbanded.

When I was younger, my mom didn't allow me to shave my legs, so I plucked them.

That sounds very painful!

#9: I actually walked out of an algebra final in high school once. It wasn't even that I didn't know how to do the math on the test, I just hated doing it so much! Miraculously, I passed the class anyway.

#10: That's...so endearing! Oh God, that sounds weird. I don't know, the secret singing makes you seem so vivacious and creative!

LOL! *sheepish grin* I was at such a loss about what to talk about in that chat ... and then I remembered that Japan had recently started dominating professional figure skating, lol. I was really curious about what that seemed like to someone actually from Japan! and got carried away from there, eep!

That sounds very painful!

I guess that's the weird thing, that I kind of enjoy it, LOL O_O

YES! That's it exactly! Glad to see that I'm not the only one who would rather fail a test than do math =P (Yay for passing the class, though!)

#10: That's...so endearing! Oh God, that sounds weird. I don't know, the secret singing makes you seem so vivacious and creative!

Aww, thank you! *blushes a lot*

Also, sorry for the spam today! I finally decided to try to answer all the comments I've always meant to answer and never have ... o_O It's probably a good thing I don't usually have this much internet time =P

This sounds to me like we *ought* to go shopping if I go visit! Oh yes we doooo! (I'm a shopaholic. It's terrible, but fun!) shopping around NY would be brilliant! yes, yes. I must go to NY if just to go shopping with you X)

And hating math! what? what? unbelievable! ...I love math. It just makes sense! not like history and all those subjects that make zero sense and rely and not logical outcomes *mumble mumble*.

Singing in the lecture halls! oh, sis. You're so awesome *glomps* Though, you must reconsider your stance on bananas and eggs. I love bananas, but.. eggs? are you for real??? ..ferrets don't like eggs all that much :P

*huuugs* See you this Saturday! yay!
18th-Apr-2008 04:27 am (UTC)
Sis! btw! ..or, totally unrelated, more likely! Could you pass me the address of the company your brother works for? the high end sex toys one? I'm making my love hotel a science fiction themed one -I think, at least, lol- and I think those would be a great theme for the sex shop X) woot? :)
20th-Apr-2008 03:47 pm (UTC)
This is his site! --> http://www.njoytoys.com/

And if you need any other info that's not on the site, I could ask him (or try to put you in touch with him). :)

Woo, science fiction themed love hotel! That sounds so awesome. I hope the njoytoys work for your purposes, lol! :D
24th-Apr-2008 04:59 am (UTC)
Thanks, sis! rock on! I'll be working on the sex shop all week :P

LOL! I don't think I have a rational reason for disliking math, it just doesn't seem to be compatible with the way my brain is programmed. I guess I'm just too right-brained; I blame my left-handedness! Or ... not ... X)

I love bananas, but.. eggs? are you for real???

Hee! Is this an objection to the egg-banana combo or just eggs in general? ^-^ I love eggs far too much; they shall kill me with their cholesterol. Maybe it's a penguin thing? =P

And yessss, you must come to NY to shop with me!! That would be so much fun. :D (And I think I have almost gathered up enough courage to ask my boss if I can have some time off this summer ... and then I could visit you! And, and ... there could also be shopping! ^-^)

*huuugs* See you tonight! I hope you had a blast at the concert. XD
