( Silliness! Teehee!Collapse )
I hope you had a wonderful day, Caroline! (And yes, I will stop obsessing over "Ballroom Blitz" now before you are forced to get a restraining order, lol. That was kind of how I saw Clara and Helena at the Snow Ball just ... minus the vaguely sperm-shaped balloons. =P)Also, why am I still at work at 2am? Whyyyyyy? I give up for tonight! I do! *falls asleep*
A Lead (1/1)Note:
Written for htbthomas
's birthday. Happy Belated Birthday, Barbara! I hope it was full of awesomesauce. :D My muses were being incredibly obstinate, but I managed to squeeze this ficlet out of them in the end. ^-^Characters/Pairings:
Clark/Lois, Richard/Lois, Jimmy OlsenFandom:
DC owns 'em, I just mess with 'em.Word Count:
Lois starts to figure out that there's more to Clark than meets the eye.( 'C'mon, Clark, get angry!'Collapse )
*continues to be behind on everything*
This post doesn't have much of a point except to say that I am finally returned from visiting my family annnddd ... I thought I would have time to catch up with the flist at home, but apparently that was a very silly idea. I feel awful for how behind I've gotten :(((( and I'm going to try my best to catch up with all of the wonderful fic/art/etc. that has been posted (and to work on a certain essay *cough*)
In any case, I hope everyone had a great time over the holidays and that 2008 is getting off to a good start for y'all. X)
Rrrg, behind on comment replies ... but the awesomeness of the last week must be proclaimed before I get too caught up in other things and neglect it!
First off ... moonface
did an amazing illustration
of ( this sceneCollapse )
from my fic First Impressions
for the World's Finest Gift Exchange
. Ahhhhh, her art is so gorgeous! So much more awesome than I ever could've imagined, with Clark looking so happy while he's running, and Bruce looking so pretty on the train in the sunlight and his Batman Begins
coat. Mmmmm. And it's rated G! There is no excuse not to look at it! *shoves everyones towards Yaz's journal* I also stalked the comments to see who made the request *grin* and I have to thank sasha_anu
for doing so. I am so honored that anyone would ask for art based off of one of my fics *dances around making lots of happy burbling noises*
And if that wasn't enough, then jen_in_japan
went out on a limb and posted Clana
for me (my not-so-secret guilty pleasure pairing =P) ... and set in the Superman for All Seasons
universe, too! I know that Clana isn't the most popular of pairings in LJ DCU fandom, but you are seriously missing out if you don't read this fic. It's tender and erotic and momentous and heartbreaking all at once, featuring a Lana who is strong and insightful—who understands Clark perfectly and cares for him tremendously—without tipping over into being a Mary Sue at all. And Clark here is so sweet and vulnerable and the epitome of woobie
*hugs him* Plus, it fits so perfectly with the Seasonsverse, right down to the period details, that it could totally pass for a missing scene from that TPB. So. Reeeaaad it! I demand it! XD
In conclusion: I am the happiest fangirl in the world right now! Thank you! *hugs*
Continuing to catch up with the requests from my turn at the
. This one is for blackrosebard
, who asked for Clark/Lois from the original movieverse. Sorry this took so long! Eeeek! I'll post links to the rest once I'm done (one more left! sister, S/B paparazzi pictures are comin' your way!). Title:
The Memento (1/1)Characters/Pairings:
Original Superman movieverse.Rating:
DC owns 'em, I just mess with 'em. Word Count:
This is set during Superman II
and depending on how you look at it, it's either a "missing scenes" fic, or a total rewrite of the motivations behind the memory wipe kiss (apparently I couldn't decide which, lol). Special thanks to htbthomas
for the beta. :)( He’ll tuck it away in his eidetic memory, like some rare, precious organism, fossilized in amber—a memento to get him through the rest of this lifetime.Collapse )
I'm mostly on top of comment replies and ... not completely out of touch with the flist, so I'd better get this out of the way before the ever downward slide of falling behind starts getting worse again, lol.( Meme Rules (cut because everyone and their third cousin's uncle has seen them)Collapse )( My Wish ListCollapse )
Also, since I keep stealing everyone's music, here are some songs! Despite all of the wonderful advice I received, I still haven't de-protected my music because I am the Laziest Person on Earth. Luckily, my lab has a random collection of CDs, so here are some of the songs from said collection that I like. :)
1. No Cheap Thrill
by Suzanne Vega. Suzanne Vega is one of my favorite musicians, one of those singer/songwriters who not only writes catchy melodies, but whose lyrics are inventive, and could almost stand on their own as poems. As for this song, the sense of competition as, um, foreplay (and implied identity porn) makes it a total S/B song for me. ;) But in general, it's about poker, and that = awesome.( Who is that man who is catching my eye? What's underneath all of the deadpan face? Sitting so pretty with a criminal grace?Collapse )
2. World Before Columbus
by Suzanne Vega. Another Suzanne song! I don't associate this with a pairing, but it's one of my favorite love songs. I was always iffy about sharing it, thinking "what if some people are offended by historically inaccurate and Eurocentric metaphors involving Christopher Columbus?" LOL. But, whatever, it's pretty!( Those men who lust for land/And for riches strange and new/Who love those trinkets of desire/Oh they never will have youCollapse )
3. Do What You Have to Do
by Sarah McLachlan. Hey, it's not my fault my lab has lots of chick rock. =P This used to be my Buffy/Angel song, but now it's my all-purpose unrequited/doomed love song (actually, it would make a great Clex or Bruce/Harvey song now that I think about it). It's terribly bleak and angsty and foreboding, even, and I adore it. ^-^( Deep within I'm shaken by the violence of existing for only you.Collapse )
And finally ...
4. This Picture
by Placebo. I get the impression that, if the flist were to combine forces, we would produce a complete Placebo anthology. But in case there's someone who doesn't have every Placebo song in existence already, here is one of their more upbeat (well, upbeat sounding ;p) pieces that's just kind of fun to listen to. *grin*( Goodbye to open sores/To broken semaphore/You know we miss her/We miss her pictureCollapse )
Annnddd ... there shall be more to come once I unpack my own CDs! :D

Woo! I did it! I didn't actually finish the story; only got through the first arc, but that came out to 50,107 words. Yay me! =P And to think I almost gave up completely on the second day this year. Also, the congratulatory letter that you get at the end after having your word count verified is the best thing ever. I think this was my favorite part:The question we ask you now is this: If you were able to write a not-horrible novel in 30 days, what else can you do?
You gotta love the "not-horrible." LOL. NaNo Organizer People, I love your brand of optimism. :D
And now I am free to find something else to eat my soul and steal all my time and sleep away, like ...
revising this monster! Whee!Coming up next on the agenda:
My Holiday Wish meme list and my answers to the interview meme! But for now--shower time! lol *dances off*
I probably shouldn't be doing this meme, since I am behind in just about every way possible, but I guess I should've thought of that before requesting things from about half the flist. LOL. And who knows, maybe this will help me get my fandom momentum back ...
MEME: The first fifteen people to comment on this post get to request a drabble (oh heck, or a doodle) from you. In return, they have to post this meme in their journal. Post all fandoms you’re willing to write or draw for. :)
Fandoms/pairings I write: Clark/Bruce, Clois, DC movieverse, Howl/Sophie, Howl's Moving Castle. And I could try other parts of the DCU ... and Heroes. Maybe, lol.
As for doodles, anything goes as long as I can find images of the characters on Google. :)
In other news, I managed to miss my own one-year LJ-versary. Go me! It was on *checks profile* ... October 5th! I wanted to do some kind of requesty thing for it (a requesty thing that was *not* a meme, lol) but ... clearly that didn't happen. ^-^
So instead, I bring quotes from William Gibson's Pattern Recognition! I just discovered his stuff, and am now in love with the man, especially (but not only) because he is the first author I've discovered who weaves internet culture into his stories, and captures the feel of being involved with it so perfectly. Case in point:
"It is a way now, approximately, of being at home. The forum has become one of the most consistent places in her life, like a familiar cafe that exists somehow outside of geography and beyond time zones."
Whee! My home away from home ... even when I am at home! That's the internet—my anchor! *g* And on a random note, for anyone who's been overwhelmed by a chat room before (I like chats, but would never deny that they can get crazy =P):
" ... the chat room she finds not so comforting. It's strange even with friends, like sitting in a pitch-dark cellar conversing with people at a distance of about fifteen feet. The hectic speed, and the brevity of the lines in the thread, plus the feeling that everyone is talking at once, at counter-purposes, deter her."
LOL. Anyway, I can't believe that it's been over a year! I've met so many wonderful people since joining LJ, and I can honestly say that fandom has made my life better. Now I just have to hope that I'll be able to play in it more soon! ^^ *continues to peck at the flist*
Edit: If you scroll to the bottom of the comments, they get a little NSFW. Nothing above a PG-13, but there is a suggestively slashy pic in there, which may not be your co-workers' (or your ^-^) cup of tea. :)
I don't know how many people on the flist are following Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to New York City
aside from juxtoppozed
. To be honest, if it weren't for him speaking at my alma mater/the institute that employs me I
probably would not be following it since I am typically woefully under-informed re: politics and world news. But the whole Columbia community was swept up in his visit today so I figured I should at least mention it.
So yeah ... Ahmadinejad spoke at our main campus today as part of the annual World Leader's Forum. juxtoppozed
has pictures up of the protesters and counter-protesters and the fliers and the crowds
at her LJ if anyone wants to see what a circus it was. I took a few hours off from work this afternoon to watch the talk ... didn't actually have a seat reserved inside the auditorium, but it was broadcast live on a jumbotron screen set up at the middle of campus.
I won't go into the content of the forum itself since I'm sure that if anyone's really interested, it's probably all over YouTube and the rest of the internet by now. And it's hard for me to say whether I think Ahmadinejad should have been allowed to speak at Columbia (which has been one of the central points of debate surrounding this event), since this whole thing has been more of an Experience with a capital "E" for me than anything else. I don't support him, and I certainly don't support the human rights violations that have been committed under his regime. But in the spirit of All Star Superman
Clark giving Lex Luthor a chance to say his piece after he's thrown in prison (yes, I do
have to relate everything back to fandom, why do you ask? ^-^) I think that, for the most part, I agree with the university's decision to invite him. As Columbia's President Lee Bollinger said in the
opening remarks he delivered today:"We need to understand the world we live in, neither neglecting its glories nor shrinking from its threats and dangers. It is consistent with the idea that one should know thine enemies, to have the intellectual and emotional courage to confront the mind of evil and to prepare ourselves to act with the right temperament. In the moment, the arguments for free speech will never seem to match the power of the arguments against, but what we must remember is that this is precisely because free speech asks us to exercise extraordinary self-restraint against the very natural but often counter-productive impulses that lead us to retreat from engagement with ideas we dislike and fear."
Getting back to your regularly scheduled programming, though ... I am behind on the flist AND comment replies AGAIN *looks apologetically at everyone* I'm off to bed now, but I promise to start catching up tomorrow!! :D
Urrrff. So I've managed to get food poisoning for the second time in as many months. Blargh. The nausea seems to have subsided for now, LOL, so I'm cheering myself up while I can by posting some old-ish fanart. ^-^
While I was lying around, I remembered that I did about a dozen pictures between March and June of this year for quirky_circe
, in case she needed some fanart to make extra icons/banners for DC Fandom Appreciation Week. I never posted these pics to my journal, and since I haven't had time to do anything new lately (or to continue working on my old projects *coughs*), I figured I'd start putting them up.
(As a side note, the rest of the pics are in a different style from this so ... don't expect this for the rest of them. :P)Characters:

was awesome enough to gift me with an iconized version of this pic *points*
